Reading Time: 1 Minute. A lot of work goes into creating an online course. It is important that students can jump in and quickly access the course content.
Melissa Erskine, a Professor of English at Blinn college, recently began using MindTap following years of experience with iLrn. Her experiences have taught Erskine a lot about how to adapt students to external resources so they are not overwhelmed.
Get ahead of student concerns
Melissa recommends that students have questions or concerns before they start an online MindTap course.
Here are some of the ways she does it:
Sending an email to students informing them that they must log into their class to register for MindTap within two days.
A custom-introduction video in which she introduces herself, her course, D2L and how to register for MindTap.
Providing them with Cengage MindTap tour video clips.
You can find all of our Getting Started Resources on the Cengage Training Resources site https://cengage.com/training/mindtap Be sure to use filters to select Student Resources, your LMS, and the Start String Topic.
Tips for Success
Students have found it extremely helpful to be guided through MindTap and what they can expect once they log in. Melissa’s Introduction video is available on the course homepage as well as in the assignment folder for the first week. This will ensure that students don’t miss it. Many students will be relieved to know that you sent them a quick email telling them where to find it.
